Use the E-Journal Article Linker

This service is available on all Ovid databases.

To use this service with PubMed, you MUST use the specialized URL found on the Tucker Library website.

• Update your PubMed favorites and bookmarks now!

• or use the link on the Tucker Library Web page.

Locate your article by performing a bibliographic search or by using the Single Citation Matcher in PubMed or the Find Citation in Ovid.

Do we own it?

Yes? – Get it! – Click on the linked word “Article” or “Journal”

No? – Are you affiliated with UCDHSC?

2. Click on “Search Holdings Here:  UCDHSC Journal Holdings (password required)”

Yes? – Get it! – Click on the linked word “Article” or “Journal” and use your UCDHSC password.

No? – UCDHSC doesn’t own it or you are not affiliated?  – Go to the previous window.

3. Click on “Request the item: Interlibrary Loan Form”

Notice all the article data has been copied over to the ILL form.

Fill in the data on the top of the form (it’s a $5.00 charge), agree with the copyright restrictions, and Click on “Submit.”

As easy as 1-2-3!

You now either have the article or have ordered it on ILL!

What’s the best way to get an article I need?

The best way? Well, what are you doing? Are you searching? Do you have a citation and want to find that one article? Do you have a PMID?

Let’s start with the PMID.

1. You have a citation with a PMID (PubMed IDentifying number).
2. Go to PubMed using the specialized URL on the Library Web Page.
3. Type the PMID number into the search box and hit Enter.
4. You will probably be at the Abstract display.
5. There is the publisher’s icon in the upper right corner and the NJH icons in the lower left.

There are potentially three icons:

>>> Click to directly access an article the Tucker Library subscribes to, or that is free from the publisher.

>>> Click to access the Article Linker to find more free and subscribed articles, check the holdings of UCD HSL, or order an interlibrary loan. This icon shows up against every article in the database.

>>> This indicates we hold the article in our print journal collection. If you click on it, it will tell you the holdings, but doing that just tells you the same thing you already know. Come to the library and copy the article. At the library copy machine you can make a print or PDF copy.

Do you have a citation and want to find that one article?

1. You have a citation WITHOUT a PMID.
2. Go to PubMed using the specialized URL on the Library Web Page.
3. Click on “Single Citation Matcher” located on the left menu and hit Enter.
4. Enter in data about the article, perhaps just volume, year and pages.
5. PubMed will return a list. If its too long, go BACK to the Single Citation Matcher and enter more data.
6. From the list choose the citation and click on the author string
7. You will be at the Abstract display.
8. There is the publisher’s icon in the upper right corner and the NJH icons in the lower left.

Are you searching?

In PubMed?

1. Go to PubMed using the specialized URL on the Library Web Page.
2. Execute your search.
3. Perhaps save your favorite articles by SENDing them to the CLIPBOARD.
4. Access the CLIPBOARD tab.
5. From the list choose the citation and click on the author string
6. You will be at the Abstract display.
7. There is the publisher’s icon in the upper right corner and the NJH icons in the lower left.
8. SEE ABOVE!

In Ovid?

1. Go to Ovid using the URLs on the Library Web Page for direct or passworded access.
2. Choose your database(s).
3. Execute your search.
4. Check of articles of interest and DISPLAY them to see all the abstracts.
5. On the right side of each citation, you will see three possible accesses to Full Text:
   1. Ovid Full Text
   2. Full Text
   3. And the FINDIT! icon:
6. Click on any of them to access Full Text.
